Days Wide Open

There is nothing like having a day that is wide open - the possibilities are endless - and today was just such a day. -Ron started the day by picking up our new summer toys, bright yellow kayaks, and then the whole family headed for the lake. What followed was glorious!! Time on the water, snacks, enjoying the breeze under the pavilion, swimming, water gun fights, laughter and general mayhem. After dropping the water gear off and a quick shower, we all proceeded to the next stop: the in-laws' house for a cookout, games, and more mayhem. I even had the privilege of enjoying my favorite summer thing... roasted marshmallows! G-Daddy fired up the chiminea in the midst of some thunder and lightning so I could catch the fluffy balls of happiness on fire, totally torch them, blow them out and YUMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!! Oh the pleasures of life!

Now to get some sleep, because we may do it all again tomorrow (which is, by the way, WIDE OPEN!!)

Time Flies

So I really wanted to post often - and then life took over. Where did five months go? They seem lost in a blur of teaching, church, programs, dogs, friends, family.... all in all, not a bad way to lose track of time! JC and I are facing three more weeks of school, then -ron and I are off to our mission project. Exciting! I am so ready for summer this year!

I learned a new skill today - cracking steamed spiced crabs. Jimmies, actually. Ugh... next time just give me some big legs and let it go at that. I kinda lost my appetite for the good meat after having to pop off the eyes and dig out the intestines. Reminded me of a meal we were served at the Independence Bowl back in 1995. Crawdads, corn, and potatoes served in a cardboard box. No napkins. No silverware. No real beverages. Just instructions to "suck the heads"... We went VERY hungry that night. Tonight I managed to supplement the grossness with yogurt, fruit, and Oreo Cakesters.

Tomorrow I learn to kayak. That should be a good story. :)

My Kingdom for a Cough Drop

Okay, so yesterday I had a slightly scratchy throat. By this morning it had progressed into a fully nasty throat with a REALLY fun cough. I currently sound like somebody's great-aunt Hettie who smokes six packs a day... or Harvey Fierstein. Take your pick. I am supposed to sing at church in the morning, but we shall see. I don't think anyone really needs another baritone. I am hoping that tonight will lead to improvement. I love Nyquil.

As I sat on the couch today looking through some old email, I took a moment to enjoy some "People of WalMart". If you haven't found this site yet, just google "the people of walmart" and see what you get. The most unfortunate part of the whole experience came when I contemplated what I was currently wearing. T-shirt, lounge pants, and slippers... all with a matching college theme, covered by a college snuggie, and a handkerchief to "aunt jemima" cover my hair. I could BE a person of walmart!!! Oh. My. Goodness. I guess the only thing holding me back is the fact that I would never (ever) be caught in public in this get-up. It did make me slightly less judgemental, though. Slightly. I mean, maybe the lady in the pink spandex bodysuit with seemingly no underwear on was also feeling a little under the weather and didn't have a -ron to go get her a bottle of Nyquil. I am going to try to be a kinder, gentler Mo, and go with that explanation.

Until next time - hope you all have good health!

Here We Go!!!

Well, I have been thinking of starting a blog for the longest time, but have often wondered how it would all work. First of all, who cares enough to even read the thing?? Then again, I tend to read my other friends' blogs... so why not?!?

My second concern had more to do with what I consider my "dual personalities" - hence the title "enharmonic tones" - or two notes with different names but the same pitch. On the one hand, I am a loving, supportive individual (or I try to be) who doesn't mind listening to others and helping them whenever they need something. That person is real... however... deep down I'm an OCD overachiever with lots of "isms", including strong sarcastic tendencies. Many years ago that sarcasm earned me the alter ego of "The Great Sarcasmo", thanks to my loving husband... -ron. Yep, Mo and -ron. Not his real name, but at least he has a sense of humor about it all. Anyway! I was concerned that any friends who read this would possibly be shocked by the sarcastic side. I have since decided that Dr. Seuss had it right: Those that mind don't matter, and those that matter don't mind!

So for 2010, I'm going to give blogging a try and just see what happens. Maybe I'll discover that the "nice" side is bigger than Mo... but I doubt it!! :)
